It was the 3rd Duke of Richmond, who in 1802 first brought horseracing to Goodwood. Now more than 200 years later Goodwood is internationally acclaimed as being one of the most beautiful racecourses in the world. This beautiful course is situated at the top of the South Downs with views to Chichester and the Isle of Wight on a good day. The course sweeps around the hilltop and racing takes place here on over 20 days per year. Racing has taken place at Goodwood since 1802. The highlight of the year is undoubtedly the July festival affectionately known as Glorious Goodwood. Three enclosures overlook the course and are amply supplied by catering facilities.
At Milford Roundabout take A286 via Haslemere and Midhurst. Before Chichester on leaving Singleton village take left turn over Downs past Goodwood Racecourse then follow brown tourist board signs for Goodwood House
There is a regular service from London Victoria to Chichester (1hour, 40 minutes), plus the coastal service from Brighton and Portsmouth. Buses or taxis are available at Chichester Station.
